The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, has cautioned youths not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of violence and destruction during Saturday’s council election in the state.

The first-class monarch specifically warned against a repeat of the #EndBadGovernance violence, during which innocent residents were killed and property worth millions of naira was vandalised.

Sanusi issued the warning at a press conference at his Kofar Kudu palace, less than 24 hours before the council election.

“People must avoid being used as tools of violence, and we must avoid a repeat of the violence recorded in the state during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, where property worth billions of naira was destroyed and many lives were lost.

“All those who love Kano would agree with me that the preservation of peace and harmony is invaluable, but those who seek violence are people from outside the state, desperately wanting to destroy the city,” he said.

The Emir noted that he has already directed Imams, District Heads, and other leaders to ensure the peaceful conduct of the election and maintain peace.

He prayed against those wishing to cause violence in the state, urging them to reconsider.

The Kano State government has imposed restrictions on vehicular movement from 12 midnight on Friday to 6 pm on Saturday to enable people to exercise their franchise.

The government has also cancelled the monthly sanitation scheduled for Saturday to avoid hindering the smooth process of the poll.
