Man allegedly stabbed by neighbour over witchcraft accusation
A 65-year-old man, Monday Reuben, was reportedly attacked and stabbed by his neighbour, identified as Nnana, in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The incident occurred at 37 Okwelle Street, Mile 2 Diobu, where Reuben is a caretaker. According to eyewitnesses, Nnana, who is in his early 30s, accused Reuben of practising witchcraft before launching the attack.
Recounting his ordeal, Reuben said: “Nnana accused me of being a witch, claiming I was unaware of my actions. He threatened to kill me and escape.” The altercation allegedly began when Reuben requested Nnana to move some sand, referring to him casually as ‘O boy’ (young man), which reportedly angered Nnana and led to the accusation.
Reuben revealed that the assault occurred in two separate incidents: “He stabbed me in the neck last night and then again in the head this morning.”
The victim, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, has appealed for justice, urging law enforcement to arrest Nnana. “I want the police to apprehend him and find out what I did to deserve such treatment,” Reuben stated.
Following the attack, Reuben reported the incident to the Azikiwe Police Division and was later taken to an undisclosed hospital after being issued a medical report form.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, has yet to comment on the case as of the time of this report.
