MNJTF commences military operations in Lake Chad Basin
The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has commenced military operations to rout out remnants of Boko Haram terrorists from the Lake Chad Basin.
Troops of task force have targeted the northern fringes of the lake, bordering Niger, Chad, Nigeria and Cameroon. MNJTF Spokesman, Col. Timothy Antigha said that the military operation was to exploit gaps within the defensive positions of the four member countries of the task force. He said the defensive positions have already been blocked from Boko Haram attacks on region’s military bases. According to him, the operational military bases are located at Arege, Metele, Baga and other settlements in the Lake Chad Basin.
“Troops of the task force have commenced a military operation code-named Operation Yancin Tafki. The aim of the operation is to take the battle to the remaining last hideouts of Boko Haram terrorists within the designated area of responsibility of MNJTF.”
The military operation, according to him, is expected to give concrete and far reaching expressions to the resolutions of summit. He said that the task force recognized the challenges of effective coverage and reportage of a conflict, particularly in the era of fake news urging the media in the insurgency affected countries to remain resolute and committed to professionalism.
