NAF begins investigation into alleged bombing of civilians in Kaduna
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said it commenced an investigation into the alleged bombing of civilians in Jika da Kolo Community at Yadin Kidandan, Giwa Local Council of Kaduna State.
The community had alleged that an NAF aircraft mistakenly bombed the community, resulting in the deaths of over 25 people at the weekend. The Deputy Director, Public Relations and Information, NAF, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, in a statement yesterday, said: “Thorough investigation is ongoing to ascertain the facts to keep the populace informed in due course.”
He insisted that the airstrikes were ordered following credible intelligence from reliable sources. He said NAF is not taking the allegations lightly, adding that it is focused on achieving the desired operational objective without collateral damage.
Ali said: “The attention of the Nigerian Air Force has been drawn to reports of alleged civilian casualties following the successful airstrike on a terrorist enclave in Giwa Council of Kaduna State.”
“The airstrike was based on credible intelligence from reliable sources, as well as confirmatory surveillance of the target area before the strike.
“The location has been a notorious terrorist enclave for over two years, and the successful airstrike would go a long way in minimising banditry, kidnapping and similar attacks on innocent civilians in Kaduna State and environs.
“Nevertheless, NAF is not taking these allegations lightly, as its focus is to always achieve the desired operational objective without collateral damage.”
