Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has lauded Nigerian Navy for floating inaugural indigenous survey and charting in Lagos.

The exercise, which is being executed by the newly acquired NNS Lana and the force’s hydrography team, is to chart the Nigerian waterways and provide data that could boost maritime security and economic growth in the country.

While applauding the team at the Western Naval Command, NNS BEECFROT Parade Ground, Apapa, yesterday, Amaechi submitted that the charting of Nigeria’s offshore and coastal waters, which cover a total area of about 84,000 square nautical miles and about 85 per cent of the country’s import and export trade transported through the domain, would receive boost and enhance ship navigation.

He added that it is also expected that at the end of the campaign, complete indigenous nautical products would be available to facilitate smooth kick-off of the seaports under construction.
