NEMA distributes relief materials to Niger flood victims
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed grains to vulnerable persons and additional relief materials to flood victims in Niger State.
While handing over the items to the state government, the Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Ahmed, stated that the grains were part of the 12,000 metric tonnes of food from the National Strategic Reserve approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ahmed, who was represented by the Head, NEMA Minna Operations Office, Zainab Sa’idu, explained that the grains were to be distributed to all states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to give succour to the most vulnerable groups of persons.
He said the grains allocated to Niger included: 166 metric tonnes of maize in 3,320 (50kg) bags, 142 metric tonnes of sorghum in 2,840 (50kg) bags and 6.2 metric tonnes of millet of 1,250 (50kg) bags.
The DG also disclosed that the agency delivered additional food and non-food relief items to further support persons affected by flood in the state.
According to him, the items comprise 1,000 bags of 10kg rice, 1,000 bags of 10kg beans, 1,000 bags of 10kg maize, 75 bags of 20kg salt, 75 kegs of 20 litres vegetable oil, 75 cartons of seasoning cubes and 75 cartons of tin tomato.
Other items include 8,000 pieces of nylon mats, 1,000 pieces of treated mosquito nets, 60 cartoons of toilet soap, 2,500 pieces of Guinea brocade, 1,000 pieces of children’s wear, 1,000 pieces of women’s wear and 1,000 pieces of men’s wear.
