NGO launches tech tool to fight gender-based violence in S’East

International human rights Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), led by African women, Alliances for Africa (AfA), has officially launched an online web application called ‘Kpoturum’.
 
 According to the NGO, “the technology tool was designed with the primary purpose of facilitating survivors’ access to justice by efficiently documenting cases, offering referrals and curbing Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) cases, particularly in the South East.”
   
Speaking to newsmen at the official unveiling of the application in Owerri, yesterday, the NGO’s Communications, Policy and Advocacy Officer, Rejoice Wobilor-Agua, flayed the prevalence of VAWG in the region, stressing: “Kpoturum was borne out of a deep-seated commitment to change this heart-wrenching narrative.
   
She said that Kpoturum App was coined from the Igbo language, which means, “call on me.”  

It was chosen to resonate with the indigenous people of Igbo, particularly women and girl-survivors, by way of reassuring them that they can get help.
   
“Kpoturum is more than just an app; it’s a lifeline for survivors. It provides a safe and confidential space for survivors to document their experiences and seek support.”
