Niger trains council health workers on data management

The Niger State government, in collaboration with the National Primary Heath Care Development Agency, Federal Ministry of Health, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and World Health Organisation (WHO), has trained Directors of Primary Health Care, Nutrition Focal Persons, as well as Data Personnel across all its 25 local councils.
  
The three-day training on District Health Information Software (DHIS.2) held in Suleja. In his keynote address, the Commissioner for Primary Health Care, Dr Ibrahim Ahmed Dangana, harped on the importance of credible data in all endeavours.
 
Represented by the Nutrition Officer in the Ministry, Asmau Abubakar Mohammed, the commissioner explained that data are currently the oil well in the digital age. He said 75 participants were selected from the 25 council areas, including nine facilitators of nutrition from UNICEF Field Office, Kaduna.
  
Earlier, the Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Kaduna Field Office, Dr Gerida Birukula, hinted that the global agency would promote good practices with a view to ensuring that National Nutrition Information System is effective, adding that after the training, the participants should be able to explain which nutrition data should be included in the national health information system to track progress.
  
Represented by the Nutrition Specialist, UNICEF, Chinwe Ezeife, the UNICEF boss pledged continuous support to Nigeria in seeing that the National Nutrition Information System works in the country.
