Niger warns students against assault on teachers
Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has warned against attacks on teachers by secondary school pupils using dangerous weapons. The Commissioner, Dr Hadiza Mohammed, in a statement issued by the Information Officer of the ministry, Jibrin Kodo, lamented that the negative development was posing a significant security threat in schools.
According to her, the ministry has zero tolerance for violence in schools and will take all steps legally permissible to stem the trend.
She added that the ministry noted, with worry, the detrimental impact of such attacks on the safety and well-being of teachers, as well as the overall learning environment.
The statement quoted her as emphasising that the physical and emotional well-being of teachers were of utmost importance and would not be compromised.
“To address this issue, the ministry has called on parents to take immediate action and engage their children positively to appreciate the importance of respecting and showing empathy to teachers and fellow students,” it added.
Mohammed also advised parents to monitor their children closely and report any sign of aggression or violent tendencies to the appropriate authorities.
