President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian governors to embrace mechanised farming to stop the stem food inflation in the country.

Tinubu said this during his Independence Day national broadcast on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024 in Abuja.

He commended the governors who have keyed into the agricultural production programme his administration has created and urged other governors to do the same.

“I commend the Governors particularly, in Kebbi, Niger, Jigawa, Kwara, Nasarawa, and the Southwest Governors that have embraced our agricultural production programme. I urge other states to join the Federal Government in investing in mechanised farming,” Tinubu said.

“We are playing our part by supplying fertiliser and making tractors and other farm equipment available.”

Tinubu said the Federal Executive Council has also approved the establishment of a local assembly plant for 2000 tractors, combine harvesters, disc riders, bottom ploughs, and other farm equipment, with a six-month completion process of the plant.

He said the measures are being taken to reduce economic hardship to the bearest minimum in the interest of Nigerians.

“The central concern of our people today is the high cost of living, especially food costs. This concern is shared by many around the globe as prices and the cost of living continue to rise worldwide,” Tinubu said.

“My fellow Nigerians, be assured that we are implementing many measures to reduce the cost of living here at home.”
