The lifeless body of 30-year-old Rabiu Sani has been recovered from a river in Kunture village, Ungogo Local Council of Kano State, after he drowned while attempting to fetch water.
The incident occurred on Saturday when Sani was sent by his parents to collect water from a local pond. However, several hours passed, and he did not return home with the water. It is believed that he struggled to escape the water but ultimately drowned.
Confirming the tragic event, Saminu Abdullahi, spokesman for the Kano State Fire Service, said the service received a distress call from a police officer, Silas Munkhaila, who alerted authorities to the drowning. The emergency rescue team arrived at the scene at 10:15 a.m.
Upon arrival, the team found Sani unconscious in the pond. Despite efforts to revive him, he was later pronounced dead. Abdullahi further explained that the deceased’s body was handed over to Uba Abdulkadir, the ward head of Kunture, who ensured the remains were delivered to the deceased’s family for burial.
