Jigawa speaker empowers constituents with N45m
Mr Aliyu Haruna, the Speaker, Jigawa House of Assembly, has disbursed N45 million as grants to members of his constituency to enable them to establish their own businesses.
Aliyu (APC-Miga), during the disbursement on Sunday at Dangyatum village in Miga Local Government Area said that the money was given to the constituents with viable business plans to enable them to have sustainable means of livelihoods.
He explained that the empowerment was borne out of mutual understanding between the legislature and the executive.
According to him, Gov. Umar Namadi of Jigawa approved the idea of initiating a constituency empowerment to further strengthen poverty alleviation programmes being implemented by the executive.
“As the representative of the people, there is the need for us to initiate such a programme to strengthen the cordial relationship between the elected and the electorate in each of the 30 constituencies of the state.
“Here in my constituency; 2,018 persons, including 1,318 women will benefit within the over N45m to uplift their economic status. The grant ranges from N100,000 and N10,000 per beneficiary,” he said.
The speaker, who thanked the governor for the support and understanding he accorded to the legislative arm, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the money to improve their well-being.
Earlier, Chairman of Miga Local Government Area, Mr Bilya Dauda, thanked the legislative arm for the gesture, noting that it would go a long way in improving the socio-economic status of the rural populace.
Dauda also commended Gov. Namadi for approving the construction of Dangyatin-Taka Lafiya Road that would open up the area to economic opportunities.
In his remark, Gov. Umar Namadi, who applauded the legislator for delivering on his mandate, urged other lawmakers in the state to emulate him.
According to the governor, about 38,250 persons will benefit from N300 million to be disbursed by lawmakers in their constituencies in the state, under same initiative.
“These initiatives by our lawmakers are part of our 12-Point Agenda to develop Jigawa State,” the governor said.
