LAUTECH to graduate 24,704 students, confer honorary degrees on six

The institution also said that it would award honorary degrees to six distinguished Nigerians, which include former Governor of Oyo State, Gen. Oladayo Popoola (rtd); former Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution, Chief Mobolaji Olukayode Ayorinde; Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BOVAS Group, Dr. (Mrs.) Victoria Adunola Samson; Peter Williams Bayo Olugbemi and Ambassador Ibironke Adefope.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, Prof. Mojeed Olaide Liasu, who disclosed this, while addressing journalists in Ogbomosho, said the 14th special convocation ceremony, which is scheduled to hold on Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23, 2022, would be a combination of all the convocations the institution couldn’t hold for 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions, as a result of the challenges it encountered until Governor Seyi Makinde succeeded in putting the ownership of LAUTECH to rest by ceding it to Oyo State.

He said the distinguished honorary degrees would be awarded as a mark of honour in appreciation of the impact of the awardees and their contributions to humanity.

He also said that in line with the vision and mission of Makinde on the expansion of the programmes of the university to meet the yearnings of the teeming population of Oyo State and others, the National Universities Commission (NUC) had granted approval for the university to run 13 new programmes, while efforts were in top gear to bring up more courses, such as Law, Mass Communication, Psychology, Education and others.

“In line with the university’s vision and mission, efforts are being made to ensure that LAUTECH continues to provide a suitable condition for the advancement of knowledge through research and learning and to make the graduates self-reliant with a view to applying technology-driven knowledge to create and positively impacting on the global environment, while they exhibit a character of service, integrity and excellence.

“To consolidate and improve on these laudable achievements, the university will continue to seek the support and encouragement of benefactors as well as collective their contributions to the growth of the institution,” he said.

He noted that since the last convocation ceremony in 2016, the university had successfully gone through professional and NUC accreditation and re-accreditation exercises and come out clean, saying: “The university is also preparing for accreditation exercises for medicine, medical laboratory sciences and other programmes.”
