Many dead, injured as fuel tanker explodes in Niger
A petrol tanker reportedly exploded at Dikko junction, around the Abuja – Kaduna expressway on Saturday after some residents of the area went to scoop its content.
An eyewitness from the scene disclosed that scores of people were consumed by the explosion, while several others sustained various degrees of burn.
Niger State governor, Muhammad Umaru Bago, who was on the inspection tour of the ongoing projects in the area expressed his shock over the explosion.
He described the explosion as worrisome, heartbreaking, and unfortunate.
Bago sympathised with the families of the victims of the explosion and prayed that Allah would repose the souls of the departed and heal the injured.
The Governor, however, cautioned the people to always be responsible and give priority to their safety.
He directed all the relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to do what was necessary while urging security agents to keep the area safe.
