Akwa Ibom: FRSC boss cautions motorists on reckless driving
Mr Edward Odiete, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Akwa Ibom, has urged drivers in the state to avoid reckless driving in the interest of their safety.
Odiete told newsmen in Uyo on Wednesday that speeding and disobedience to traffic rules were the major causes of road accidents.
The FRSC official said that the accident which occurred at Etim Ekpo Roundabout on Monday was purely due to reckless driving.
He said that the accident, which claimed three lives occurred when a truck rammed into a building in the area.
“Our investigation has revealed that the driver was reckless, he did not obey traffic rules.
“The lone crash involved a Howo Truck that ran into a structure at the roundabout.
“A woman and two men were confirmed dead while others sustained various degrees of injuries.
“This accident would have been avoided if the driver was careful. Many lives will be saved if driver’s obey traffic rules,” he said.
Odiete urged passengers to adhere strictly to the theme of this year’s Ember Months Campaign: “Speak up Against Dangerous Driving: Crashes kill more Passengers than Drivers”
He said that it was the collective duty of drivers, passengers and other road users to ensure road safety during the ‘Ember Months’.
