Armed men suspected to be bandits, last Thursday invaded the Oreke-Okegbo community in Ifelodun local government in Kwara State, killing one and injuring one person.

According to sources, the armed bandits dressed in military uniforms invaded the area at about 7:00 p.m.

A credible source said: “they shot one person at Awere river, and
all efforts made by Kabiesi Oloreke to contact the army at Oro Ago proved abortive.”

The traditional ruler of Oreke, Oba Joseph Sunday Afolabi, confirmed that one person was shot and injured, while one other was killed.

“The bandits, including a woman, came into my community from a neighbourhood and encountered some guards protecting some Chinese nationals in the area, and the process led to a gun to actualise their mission.

“After the attack, they got stock at the Awere River after Babanla Town, as the river was full and they could not cross, until the following morning, when they were able to escape.

“They are not herdsmen; though they spoke Hausa language, I suspect they are foreign nationals from neighbouring countries.”

He, however, reasoned that the bandits now see the state, particularly the area, as a new haven after being dislodged in Zamfara State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adetou Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying the command was on top of the situation.

She said that: “the command is aware of this information, Investigations have long begun to ascertain its authenticity.

“Notwithstanding, all security measures have been emplaced to protect the lives and properties of Kwarans.

“Further developments will be communicated soon.”
