Benue varsity lecturer arrested over abduction, robbery of ASUU leader’s wife
Benue State Police Command has arrested Dr. Ichor Tersagh, a lecturer at the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi (JOSTUM), for allegedly masterminding the abduction of one Mrs Susan Anyagh.
The kidnaped victim, Susan, is the wife of Paul Anyagh, the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), JOSTUM chapter.
The incident occurred last Saturday on Otukpo Road in Makurdi, where Mrs Anyagh was abducted, forced into her vehicle, robbed of ₦1.35 million, and assaulted before being left unconscious on a bush path.
She was later found along Yandev-Ugbema Road and rushed to the Primary Healthcare Clinic in Ameladu for treatment, according to state command spokesperson, Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident.
“She stated that while she was driving from the NNPC mega fuel station, Kanshio, where she went to collect money from her customer, she was flagged down at Otukpo Road by persons who claimed to be in need, and she stopped to render help,” the state police report revealed.
“They quickly jumped into her car and pointed a gun at her, ordering her to drive towards the Wurukum area.”
According to police reports, immediately, she (Mrs Anyagh) looked outside the car and saw her husband’s colleague, Dr Tersagh, standing by the car; she beckoned him for help but he turned his back and walked away.
The victim also disclosed that her abductors received a phone call from Dr Tersagh during the kidnapping, allegedly instructing them to kill her.
The kidnappers eventually stopped near a police checkpoint, where they decided to abandon the vehicle.
“When they sighted a police checkpoint ahead that was checking vehicles, they decided to reverse to a hidden place. They parked the car, brought her out, collected the sum of ₦1,350,000 she had in the car, opened the car boot, and took a vehicle jack, which they used to hit the back of her neck, and she fell.”
Police have disclosed that an investigation into the case is ongoing and that the lecturer is currently in custody.
