Customs seizes smuggled petrol, others worth N20m in four weeks
The Nigerian Customs Service Federal Operations Unit Zone D Bauchi has intercepted 628 jerry cans of smuggled petrol, 78 pieces of donkey skin, and four petrol drums in four weeks.
The Comptroller of FOU Zone D, Aliyu Abubakar, made this known while briefing journalists on Wednesday on the activities of smugglers in Bauchi.
He said that 628 jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 4 drums of PMS, 16,635 liters of PMS, six sacks of fresh donkey skin containing 78 pieces each, and other items were intercepted between September 6th and October 8th, 2024.
The cumulative Duty Paid Value of all the seized items stands at N20,330,225.
Abubakar said the interception of the seizures was achieved due to robust information gathering and credible intelligence sharing by other customs units such as the CIU, Customs police, SIS, and vigilant and resilient patrol officers of FOU Zone ‘D’.
He appealed to citizens on the need to provide credible information to the service to curb the menace of smuggling which is bent on crippling the economy.
