Delta police arrest 22-year-old man for defiling hearing-impaired minor
A 22-year-old man, Ezekiel Elijah, from Isoko South Local Government Area in Delta State has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old hearing-impaired girl.
Elijah was alleged to have lured the minor to his residence and took advantage of her physical impairment.
Elijah claimed that he did not know the victim was underage but admitted that he knew she was hearing-impaired.
During an interrogation with the Delta State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, Elijah acknowledged that his actions were wrong and stated that he would feel sad if someone did the same to his child.
SP Edafe noted that the consent of the underage girl is immaterial in cases of defilement and that Elijah’s actions were a clear exploitation of the victim’s vulnerability.
“Rape is different from defilement; for defilement, the consent of the underage girl is immaterial (which means, you can’t say she is my girlfriend). But in this case, the 13-year-old girl he defiled is even physically impaired. He took advantage of this child, lured her to his room and defiled her. May God help us.” Edafe said.
