Fubara vows to prosecute arsonists
Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has vowed to bring to justice those responsible for setting fire to three local government Secretariat in the state.
The incident occurred days after the Rivers Local Government Area elections. Governor Fubara stated that this time, the perpetrators will not go unpunished, as his administration will work with security agencies to identify and hold them accountable.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of four new commissioners, Governor Fubara reminded the audience of his previous warning to the new council chairmen about potential attacks.
He commended his supporters for remaining calm despite the violent confrontations.
Expressing regret that the recent political crisis has overshadowed his administration’s achievements, the governor announced plans to highlight these accomplishments later this month.
In his address to the newly appointed commissioners, Governor Fubara urged them to work closely with him to advance the progress of the country amidst ongoing socio-economic challenges. He stressed the need for increased oil production by addressing crude oil theft.
Governor Fubara explained that his selection of the new commissioners was based on loyalty, dedication, and maintaining political balance in various regions.
The newly appointed commissioners include Otamiri John-Ngubo, Evans Bipi, Benibo Alabraba, and Israel Lebura-Ngbuelu.
The arson attacks on the Ikwere and Emohua Local Government Council Secretariat followed the withdrawal of police officers by the commissioner of police.
The situation has escalated into a heated dispute, with President Bola Tinubu ordering the Nigerian Police Force to ensure security for all 23 LG Secretariat.
