Gunmen invaded the Isiala Mbano Local Council headquarters in Imo State on Tuesday night, setting several office buildings ablaze and killing security operatives and others.

The attack took place while the All Progressives Congress (APC) was conducting its primaries for the upcoming chairmanship and councillor elections in the state’s 27 local councils and 305 wards.

The incident occurred between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., and the attackers quickly fled the scene.

Among those killed were members of the Ebubeagu security outfit established by the government.

The reason for the attack remains unclear, as the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, has not responded to inquiries about the incident.
