Federal and local security operatives are to commence a 30-day sustained operation across 19 of the 34 local government areas of Katsina State to tackle the recent surge in attacks by suspected terrorists.

The development followed a rise in attacks by terrorists who exploit the cover provided by the rainy season and high crops to perpetuate their heinous crimes.

Several attacks have been recorded in recent weeks in the state especially during heavy downpours, with attendant loss of lives, kidnap of hapless citizens, and rustling of domestic animals.

The sustained operation plan was made known after an expanded State Security Council Meeting hosted by Governor Dikko Radda which held for hours into late Tuesday night at the Government House chamber.

Council areas to be affected include Batagarawa, Batsari, Jibia, Safana, Danmusa, Kankia, Faskari, Dandume, Sabuwa, Dutsinma, Kurfi, Kankara, Musawa, Matazu, Malumfashi, Danja, Bakaro Funtua and Charanchi.

According to the state Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Muazu, in addition to the sustained operation, the meeting also agreed to the implementation of a community-based approach to security, leveraging local intelligence and participation.

Muazu said another resolution at the meeting was for the activation of the four-tier security structure established by Katsina State law to galvanize coordinated community-based security operations.

He said another resolution adopted was the empowerment of affected local government councils to provide modalities for security operations, emphasizing strong community-based intelligence-gathering mechanisms.

He added that the meeting called on traditional rulers to use their platforms to preach and pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the state.

“These measures represent a comprehensive and collaborative approach to tackling the security challenges facing our communities. The Katsina State Government is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents and will spare no effort in implementing these resolutions.

“We urge all citizens to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activities in their areas. Together, we can build a safer and more secure Katsina State.”

Though the commissioner did not state when the sustained operation would commence, it was, however, learnt that same would commence within the week.

The gathering saw stakeholders that included the State Security Council, Local Government Chairmen, District Heads, Divisional Police Officers, Department of State Security, Heads of Vigilante Grouos, Katsina Community Watch Corps Commanders, and Civil Defence officials, in attendance.
