Residents of the Igbogi Community in Ibeju-Lekki Local Council, Lagos, have warned of potential anarchy if the alleged sale of their ancestral land continues.

Residents of the Igbogi Community in Ibeju-Lekki Local Council, Lagos, have warned of potential anarchy if the alleged sale of their ancestral land continues.

The community has petitioned the Lagos State Attorney General, calling for immediate government intervention to prevent a breakdown of order.

According to the petition, the community’s troubles began in August 2021 when alleged company officials, accompanied by police and thugs, demolished properties within the community.

Despite ongoing legal proceedings, unknown individuals have continued encroaching upon the land, constructing and selling it to unsuspecting buyers.

The community members recounted the shock and devastation they experienced when their homes, some still under construction, were marked for demolition without any explanation.

Shortly after, their properties were destroyed, leaving them with unanswered questions.

The residents feared this flagrant disregard for their rights and the ongoing land encroachment could lead to “self-help” and anarchy.

They urged the Attorney General to swiftly address the situation and prevent further escalation.
