A Lagos court has sentenced a 43-year-old electrician to seven years in prison for the indecent treatment of his 17-year-old daughter.

Chukwuweike Kingsley Ashideu was found guilty of the offences, which took place between 2015 and 2016.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Justice Rahman Oshodi stated that the prosecution had proven the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The judge cited evidence, including Ashideu’s admission in his extra-judicial statement that he had rubbed his genitals on his daughter’s buttocks.

Key witnesses in the case included a police officer from the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command and a medical practitioner who provided expert testimony on the victim’s medical examination.

Ashideu, who testified in his defence, denied the allegations of defilement.

His lawyer pleaded for leniency, highlighting his remorse and clean criminal record.

However, Justice Oshodi sentenced Ashideu to seven years imprisonment.
