Niger secures $1m scholarship partnership with Toronto varsity
The Niger State government has announced that it has secured a $1m scholarship partnership agreement with the University of Toronto, Canada, for the training of 100 students from the state pursuing medical degrees and professional courses at the university.
The partnership was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by Governor Umaru Bago’s spokesperson, Bologi Ibrahim.
Ibrahim said Bago led a state government delegation to the university, where a $1m scholarship bond was secured, with the University of Toronto creating a $2m fund as matching grants.
He added that the agreement is a milestone achievement, especially as it prioritises the health sector to address the need for effective healthcare service delivery across the state, as the medical students that will be part of this scholarship will eventually help out in this regard.
The University of Toronto is acknowledged to be among the 50 top-ranked universities in the world, with over 680,000 alumni across 190 countries, as well as securing over 1,200 partnerships with institutions across the globe.
The partnership with Niger State is no doubt an avenue for aspiring medical professionals from the state to acquire quality advanced medical knowledge for its overall good and in line with the New Niger Agenda of Governor Umaru Bago.
