NSCDC discovers house used for illegal storage in Rivers
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) said it has discovered a residential property being used to store illegally refined petroleum products in the Elelewo community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The illegal facility, discovered by the NSCDC’s Anti-Vandal Unit, contained large storage tanks and cans filled with illegal refined petroleum.
The operation was led by the NSCDC State Commandant for Rivers State, Joachim Okafor.
Okafor said the discovery by the Command’s Anti-Vandal Unit was through the deployment of the Corp’s latest illegal crude oil theft technology tracker.
Okafor stated that aside from its negative impact on the nation’s economy, the activities of crude oil thieves are causing serious environmental hazards and health issues for the people.
