Ogun man steals he-goat for daughter’s naming, lands in police custody
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a he-goat valued at ₦200,000 to mark his child’s naming ceremony.
The arrest, confirmed by the state police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, occurred on January 2, 2025, in the Odeda area of the state.
Waris and his alleged accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf, were accused of stealing the goat from a local farm on December 25, 2024, while the owner, identified only as Mark, was away grazing other cattle.
Reports revealed that community members had seen the suspects transporting the goat on a motorcycle toward Olodo town.
Acting on a tip-off, detectives arrested the duo, who confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Odutola, in a statement on Saturday, explained, “During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, explaining how they stole, transported, and later slaughtered the he-goat on December 27, 2024.
“They disclosed that the goat was used to prepare food for the naming ceremony of Akintoye Warris’s daughter, which was held at Olodo.
“The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation at the Divisional Crime Branch.”
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. Authorities have assured the public that they will face prosecution upon conclusion of the investigation.
Further updates on the case will be provided, the police said.
