A heavy downpour has rendered a portion of the Kano-Maiduguri highway impassable, causing significant disruptions to traffic flow.

The affected area is between Malori and Guskuri villages in the Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The flood has created a large crater in the middle of the road, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes. This has led to traffic congestion and delays for commuters and transporters alike.

Governor Bala Muhammad visited the affected area on Thursday to assess the damage. He stressed the road’s critical importance as a major artery connecting Nigeria’s Northwest and Northeast regions.

The governor called on the federal government to intervene and repair the damaged road urgently. He warned that if the federal authorities fail to act swiftly, the state government would take steps to address the issue independently.

“This is a major highway, the Northeast highway, and the dual carriageways have been completely washed away. We are calling on the federal government to assist. We will report this issue to Abuja through the Controller of Works,” he said.

“If they are unable to address the problem, we will take action to implement remedial or permanent measures, as we did during the last rainy season.”
