The Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has arrested a man known as Ifeanyi Okonkwo who returned to the scene of a theft he committed weeks earlier.

The incident occurred on November 7, 2024, when Okonkwo visited the eatery to purchase food.

However, camera footage revealed that he secretly took the phone, which belonged to another customer, from the counter before leaving the premises.

“The suspect, Ifeanyi Okonkwo, on November 7, 2024, was at the restaurant to purchase food but ended up stealing a Samsung A15 mobile belonging to another customer,” the police confirmed in a statement on Monday

“Unknown to him, he was captured on CCTV while stealthily taking the phone on the counter.”

Police said Okonkwo was unaware that his actions had been recorded and returned to the same eatery nearly a month later, on December 5, 2024.

Staff who recognised him alerted authorities, and police personnel apprehended him near the restaurant.

The police said it has recovered the phone from the buyer while the suspect has been charged to court.
