Police crack down on vehicles with covered plates, illegal tints, others in FCT
In a move to combat the rising tide of ‘one-chance’ robberies and vehicle theft, the FCT Police Command has announced a crackdown on vehicles operating without proper registration.
Speaking yesterday, Police Spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh revealed that officers would be impounding any vehicle found without registration plates, displaying only one plate, or using defaced plates. The operation will also target vehicles with covered number plates and illegally tinted windows.
“This initiative aims to combat rising incidents of ‘one-chance’ crimes and car theft,” stated SP Adeh. “We will be impounding vehicles without registration numbers, with only one plate, or using defaced plates. Regulations regarding covered number plates and tinted glasses will also be enforced.”
To support this operation, the FCT Police Command is increasing patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance across the Federal Capital Territory.
While acknowledging the potential for inconvenience, SP Adeh emphasised that these measures are crucial to ensuring the safety of all FCT residents.
She highlighted the operation’s early success, stating, “Since launching these measures, we have successfully recovered stolen vehicles and apprehended ‘one-chance’ robbers.”
The police are appealing for public patience and cooperation, urging all vehicle owners to ensure they are fully compliant with the regulations.
“The FCT Police Command is dedicated to maintaining a secure environment,” added SP Adeh. “We encourage residents to report suspicious activities and cooperate with our officers. Your safety is our priority.”
