Two police officers lost their lives during a shootout with Lakurawa bandits during an attack on Alhaji Lawal Block Farm and nearby Fulani settlements in Natsini village in Kebbi State.

The village is along the Argungu-Kangiwa road, the Kebbi State Police Command said.

The police spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed in a statement that the attack also involved the rustling of an unspecified number of cattle.

According to Abubakar, a team from the Police Safer Highway patrol raced to the scene after receiving the distress report and engaged the bandits in a heated gunfight.

The police were able to recover some of the stolen cattle, and the bandits were eventually forced to escape into the forest after being shot.

Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, condemned the deaths of the officers and extended his prayers for the repose of their souls.

He also conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the scene and later visited the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Mera, to offer condolences and provide updates on security efforts by security agencies to combat crime in the area.
