The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its influence over state governments and securing the presidency in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

PDP National Treasurer, Ahmed Yayare, made this declaration while speaking on behalf of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) during a visit to Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, at his country home in Sampou on Sunday.

PDP, according to Yayare, is establishing itself as the only strong opposition that can defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is currently in power.

Yayare noted that “if it (PDP) does not take over the country’s leadership, it could be the end of democracy in Nigeria.”

He added that nothing stops PDP from producing the president and the vice president in 2027, saying that “the cry of hunger and poverty is too much in the land.”

Yayare claims that a coordinated effort to rally support is part of the PDP’s strategy in all states under its control.

He also called for unity among the party’s governors towards actualising the party’s 2027 goals.

“The 36 states of Nigeria are yearning for the return of PDP. The APC cannot go out to campaign because they will be stoned. Nigeria is in your hands. We need your support to salvage Nigeria.”
