Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has dismissed circulating reports of his alleged arrest as “entirely false.”

Obi dismissed the rumors in a statement posted on his verified X account on Wednesday.

Social media platforms, particularly X, were awash with claims that Obi had been taken from his home in Abuja by DSS operatives and whisked away to an unknown location.

Obi, however, denied this report stating that ‘these claims are entirely false.’

He also disclosed that he is “currently at my home in Onitsha. Anambra State.”

The Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections also condemned the persistent spread of misinformation about him.

“Such fake News on my person has become a pastime for some people,” he said.

“Recall last year September, when I was in Rwanda, similar lies had gone out that DSS invaded my house; now, while I was in my home in Onitsha, Anambra State, they said I was arrested in Abuja.”

Obi noted that the motives behind these falsehoods were far from positive and urged Nigerians not to be distracted by baseless rumors.

“The motive of these peddlers cannot be positive but let us not allow baseless rumors to distract us from the critical challenges we face as a nation.

“I Thank the public for the concern, support, and dedication to the cause of a better Nigeria that is possible!!!”

The arrest rumor surfaced just days after Obi alleged threats to his life in the wake of his New Year message, which included criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Obi’s statement came amid controversy following comments attributed to Felix Morka, the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Morka was quoted to have said in an interview that “Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times and has it coming to him whatever he gets”.
