Nigeria ranks fourth with most crypto complaints in 2023 – Report

A report has listed Nigeria as the fourth nation with the most complaints about cryptocurrency in 2023.

The annual report on cryptocurrency emanated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).

“In 2023, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) received more than 69,000 complaints from the public regarding financial fraud involving the use of cryptocurrencies, such as bitcoin, ether, or tether,” the report read.

According to the IC3, estimated losses with a nexus to cryptocurrency totaled more than $5.6 billion.

Also in 2023, the IC3 said it received complaints with a cryptocurrency nexus from victims in 200 countries.

The United States of America (USA) tops the list with 57,762 crypto complaints with Canada occupying the second position following 1,236 complaints.

The United Kingdom (UK) comes next in the third position with 962 complaints while Nigeria is ranked fourth after lodging 841 crypto complaints.
