Shehu Sani urges Nigerians staying ‘illegally’ in US to return
Former lawmaker and Senator in Nigeria’s defunct 8th National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has appealed to undocumented Nigerians to humbly return home and avoid forceful deportation by the United States government.
The activist was reacting to President Donald Trump’s renewed deportation push, sparking fears of large-scale ICE raids.
Several Nigerians living in the United States are currently experiencing heightened anxiety due to Trump’s renewed call for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants.
This anxiety has been triggered by social media warnings and unverified videos allegedly showing United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducting raids in public spaces frequented by Africans.
Sani said undocumented Nigerians living in the US cannot hide for long, given the effectiveness of the US immigration department, urging them to eat the humble pie and return home
”Nigerians in the US hiding from Trump’s deportation should just humbly come back home,” he said on X.
The Trump administration has taken a hardline stance on immigration, with a focus on tightening border security and enforcing deportation laws.
Under Trump’s policy, thousands of Nigerians and other nationalities living in the US without proper documentation are at risk of deportation.
