Nigeria’s Opeyori wins 2025 Africa Badminton Championship
In a show of composure, grit and technical brilliance, Nigeria’s representative in the 2025 Africa Badminton Championship, Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori, won the tournament.
Opeyori secured this victory over Egypt’s Adham Hatem Elgamal in the men’s singles final of the All-Africa Senior Badminton Championship in Douala, Cameroon, on Sunday.
This win is his seventh African title.
He won the championship five consecutive years between 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
He also won two Africa gold medals in won two All-Africa Games gold medals in 2019 and 2023/2024, bringing his total continental singles titles to seven.

In the tournament’s round of 16, he secured a straight-set win against Reunion’s T. Cougouille.
That wasn’t his first win since the tournament commenced.
He began his winning streak in the Round of 32 when he competed against Algeria’s M. Ouchefoun.
Opeyori also secured a 2- win over Mauritius’ J. Bongout in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinal, he competed with Morocco’s Bourroum P. Nolem in straight sets before clinching the title with his final win against Elgamal.
