Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has warned the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) members to desist from violating the NUJ constitution, as it will neither support errant members nor illegal leadership.

The Chairman, Garba Balangu, gave this warning, in reference to those he described as mischievous and desperate NAWOJ members, who earlier met without the consent of NAWOJ national body and North West Zonal offices held an election.

Balangu said: “NUJ, being a professional body, will not support errant members, who are all out to foment trouble and unnecessary confusion either in NUJ or NAWOJ.”

He assured the new executives of NAWOJ of his full support and encouragement.

Addressing the seven newly-elected NAWOJ state executives, at the weekend, in Dutse Press Centre, Balangu categorically stated that NUJ would never support racial discrimination on any individual aspiring for elective post in either NUJ or NAWOJ, once constitutional provisions are followed.

“NUJ constitution and that of NAWOJ are very clear in spelling out the procedures for aspiring for leadership positions. Therefore, the question of racial discrimination is ruled out. Every member is free to vie for any position of his desire, provided he followed constitutional procedures of their union,” he added.

He charged the newly NAWOJ executives to live above board in carrying their members along, as well guard against violation of NAWOJ constitution in the discharge of their duties.

NAWOJ National Vice Chairperson, North West Zone, Halima Musa, commended the efforts and giant strides of the Jigawa NUJ in ensuring justice and fair play in electing new NAWOJ state executives.

Musa enjoined the new Jigawa NAWOF exco to work hard in taking the union to greater heights.

In her acceptance speech, the new Chairperson, Hauwa Ladan, pledged to consolidate on their past successes in moving NAWOJ forward.
