Obaseki-Shaibu face off: Situation under control, says Edo PDP
.Subsidy removal: NLC advocates more modular refineries in Edo, lauds gov’s intervention
The Edo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, said the rift between the governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, would be resolved soon.
Chairman of Edo PDP, Tony Aziegbemi, gave the assurance during a media briefing to announce activities ahead of the September 2 council elections in the state.
Aziegbemi said: “Leaders of the party are not sleeping on this matter. We are looking at various options. You should expect that such rifts would exist, because even identical twins have different Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA).
“More so, when it comes to the political ambitions of human beings, the DNA can go haywire. So, as a party, we will control it; we have it under control. Absolutely, the rift will soon be a thing of the past.”
Aziegbemi, who assured of the party’s preparedness, said: “With this, we wish to state very clearly that we are ready.
“As a party, we have done the necessary things. All arrangements have been made. It is a case of catch us if you can, in terms of other political parties, as far as September elections are concerned.”
While dismissing the rumour in some quarters that Obaseki has already perfected plans to rig the elections in favour of the party, Aziegbemi urged Edo people to support the developmental strides of the governor, by voting for all PDP candidates in the council election.
In another development, the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State chapter, Odion Olaiye, has called on the Federal Government to issue more modular refinery licences to operators in the state to increase their output.
Olaiye noted that the state is already leading the charge of boosting local production of refined petroleum products.
Olaiye noted that the governor has set an example by making the state conducive for investment in the oil and gas sector, noting that two modular refineries are already operational in the state.
Commending the governor for his worker-friendly policies, he said: “The removal of fuel subsidy has caused hardship to Nigerians.”
We thank the governor for reducing the working days of civil servants to three in a week. We appeal to President Bola Tinubu to allow Nigerians to breathe.”
