Ogun records 12 suicide incidents in 12 months
• Police seek support for mental health individuals
About 12 suicide incidents have been recorded in Ogun State within 12 months. Spokesperson for Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola disclosed this while reacting to a suicide incident, involving a 49-year-old woman, Victoria Idowu, on Sunday.
She expressed the need to support individuals grappling with mental health challenges, urging the public to be vigilant and compassionate towards their loved ones.
The Guardian gathered that the woman reportedly hanged herself on a ceiling fan in her residence in the Magboro area of Obafemi-Owode Local Council of Ogun State.
Her son discovered it upon his return from a church service, prompting him to raise the alarm. It was gathered that police authorities were swiftly informed of the tragic incident. Odutola, who confirmed the distressing news, said no suicide note was found at the scene.
According to her, law enforcement officers from the Ibafo Division were dispatched to investigate further. “This year alone more than dozens of suicide incidents had happened in the state and these figures have become worrisome to the residents of the state,” she said.
