Ondo partners World Bank on construction of primary healthcare facilities in 203 wards

With the move to ensure access to healthcare, particularly at the grassroots, the government of Ondo State has partnered with the World Bank to build health facilities across the 203 wards of the state.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa who revealed this emphasised that the World Bank-sponsored project, which has the counterpart funding from the state will not only ensure that closer healthcare delivery to rural dwellers but will also reduce pressure on secondary and tertiary health facilities.

Aiyedatiwa, disclosed this yesterday during the presentation of Instrument of Appointment and Staff of Office to the new Ajana Afa-Okeagbe Akoko, Oba Mofolorunso Adegboyega Arasanyin, at the Palace of Afa-Okeagbe in Akoko North West Local Council Area of the state.

While stressing that the new facilities in the 203 wards will complement the primary health centres across the 18 councils of the state, the governor maintained that the funds needed for the project have been deployed and contractors set for the implementation stage.

Aiyedatiwa, who congratulated the people of the Okeagbe on the peaceful selection of their new monarch, urged the traditional ruler to use his position to foster unity, peace, and development within his domain,

He said: “I commend the kingmakers for their sincere and invaluable roles in the emergence of the new monarch. This demonstrates their commitment to the welfare and development of Afa, Oke-Agbe.

“While we strive to promote and enhance the position of our traditional rulers, it is expected that the government’s efforts will be reciprocated through actions that support and complement our initiatives.”

On his part, the newly installed Ajana Afa, Oba Mofolorunso Arasanyin, who expressed gratitude to the governor and the State Executive Council for their support for his appointment as a “Grade A” Oba, described the appointment as a significant achievement and pledged to work collaboratively with the community to harness its cultural, social, and economic potentials.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, noted that the coronation ceremony was expedited due to the prompt and decisive actions of the governor, whose intervention he said played a crucial role in the process.”
