Ahead of next year’s gubernatorial poll in Osun, the state chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), yesterday, urged former Governor Rauf Aregbesola to collaborate with it in winning the election.

The party expressed optimism that a healthy synergy with the Omoluabi Progressives, a splinter group led by Aregbesola, would be perfect for a smooth takeover of governance from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement signed by its chairman, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, the NNPP contended that it had proven to Nigerians that it possessed the capacity to correct the defects in the country’s governance system, using a pro-people approach to foster socio-economic development.

THIS is even as the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) formally expelled the immediate past Minister of Interior over anti-party activities.
In a letter dated January 7, 2025, titled “Re: Allegations of Anti-Party Activities -Conveyance of State Excos To You”, addressed to Aregbesola, the party cautioned him to comply with its decision.

The letter, which was signed by the Osun APC Chairman and Secretary, Tajudeen Lawal, and Alao Olabisi Kamoru, and sighted by The Guardian in Osogbo, yesterday, the expulsion letter had been issued more than two weeks before the Aregbesola-led Omoluabi Progressives announced their exit from the party.

The expulsion letter reads: “We write to formally bring to your attention the findings and resolution arising from the disciplinary process initiated concerning allegations of anti-party activities levelled against you by the disciplinary committee, where you were allowed to be heard under the principles of natural justice.

“At the end of the investigation, the State Executive Committee (SEC) considered the report of the disciplinary committee.

“Having carefully considered the findings and recommendations of the committee, SEC resolved to accept the recommendation of your immediate expulsion from the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

The party also advised the public to disregard the governorship campaign posters of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, pasted in some conspicuous places in Osogbo.

It described the printing and pasting of the posters as the handiwork of some disgruntled elements whose ulterior motive was to destabilise the party. The advice was contained in a statement signed by APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi.
