Disturbed by the surge in killings and attacks by suspected political thugs ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State, the State Police Command has convoked a stakeholders’ peace meeting, with all relevant stakeholders condemning the development in the state and calling for lasting peace.
Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, while speaking at the interactive session, vowed to intensify efforts in curbing the menace.
Gotan, at the programme, held at the Police Headquarters in Osogbo, yesterday, warned against the destruction, defacement, or removal of opponents’ billboards, banners, posters, and other campaign materials.
MEANWHILE, former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has withdrawn his endorsement for Governor Ademola Adeleke and aligned with the candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adewale Adebayo, ahead of the governorship election.
Oyinlola dispelled the acclaimed alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Accord Party (AP), noting that the structure would rather work for APM and not any other party.
The former governor, while speaking with newsmen at his residence in Okuku, Osun State, after a meeting session with the 2027 National and State Assemblies candidates of APM, led by its 2026 candidate, Adebayo, disclosed that the APM/PDP alliance is a movement that seeks to take over government in the 2026 and 2027 polls, hence they need to strategise ahead of the polls.
He, however, charged the candidates to work rigorously for Adebayo to emerge victorious at the polls.
