The leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, yesterday, officially announced the suspension of the former governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola, from the party over alleged anti-party activities.

In a letter signed by the state’s Chairman of the party, Tajudeen Lawal and Secretary, Alao Kamoru, the immediate past Minister of Interior was accused of serious anti-party activities, which include harshly criticising President Bola Bola Tinubu, his successor in office, GboyegaOyetola, and that he (Aregbesola) deliberately created parallel organs within Osun APC and refused to vote for the party.

In the letter, dated October 22, 2024, and addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Lawal and Kamoru said that the suspension of Aregbesola followed complaints of anti-party activities levelled against the former erstwhile Commissioner for Works in Lagos State by the Ilesa East Local Council Executive Committee where the former governor comes from.

The Ilesa East Council leadership of the party had in a letter addressed to the state chairman and dated October 21, 2024 and signed by the Chairman, Fowowe Timothew and Secretary, Kehinde Ajayi, accused Aregbesola of undermining, weakening and creating a lack of cohesion in the party at both the state and council levels.

The letter read in part: “The Ife East Local Government Executive Committee of All Progressives Congress (APC) hereby formally requests that the State Executive Committee initiate disciplinary action against Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, in accordance with Article 21 of APC’s constitution, for engaging in activities that are harmful to the party.”

Meanwhile, several calls made to Sola Fasure, an aide to the former minister, were not picked.

But Lade Baderinwa, who served under the Aregbesola administration, simply responded. “We don’t have anything to respond to. Let them make their decision.”

Also, the National Vice Chairman (South West) of APC, Isaac Kekemeke, refused to comment.

He said: “I don’t want to say anything that will jeopardise what I am doing. I thank you for reaching out to me.”
