Oyo to strengthen PHC in LGAs for elders’ wellbeing
The Oyo State Government, on Monday, disclosed its plans to strengthen primary health centres in each of the local governments of the state.
Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Toyin Balogun, revealed this at an event in commemoration of the International Day for the Elderly, held at the House of Chiefs, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.
It was in commemoration of this year’s International Day for the elderly.
Addressing the elders drawn across the 33 local governments of the state the state commissioner for Women Affairs and social inclusion, Balogun hinted that the State would kick start the elder-friendly health care, in 9 local governments and later extend it to others before the year 2027.

According to Mrs. Balogun, the aim of the event, themed “ageing with dignity” was to add value to the lives of elderly demographic, and ensure they are free from health challenges, neglect and isolation.
Delivering his lecture, a nutritionist, Dr. Tunde Ajobo, whose lecture was centralised on the importance of water, food at the appropriate time, urged the state government to prioritize the welfare of the elderly people and ensure it extends such a program to nooks and crannies of the state.
In their various remarks some of the beneficiaries, who appreciated the state government on the all-inclusive policies, called for sustainability and ensured that the relevant stakeholders enjoy the benefits
Highlights of the event included health talk, checkups, games, and prizes, while foodstuff and cash gifts were distributed to the elders.
