The King of Ofunama in Edo State, HRH Henry Binidodogha, on Monday called on Niger Deltans to eschew violence and embrace peace to drive development in the region and particularly the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP).

The traditional ruler also pledged his support for the Delta State-born Aroni Oputu, who succeeds him as President of the beneficiaries of the First Phase of the PAP.

Binidodogha was, until his exit, the immediate past president of the beneficiaries of the First Phase of the PAP.

According to the monarch, he has exited the First Phase of the Amnesty beneficiaries’ programme position, having spent the statutory two-year term.

He noted that in his desire to ensure a seamless transition, he has successfully handed over the reins of power to Delta State-born Aroni Oputu.

He said, “I want to announce the latest development regarding my position as the President of the beneficiaries of the First Phase of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). I have handed over to a capable successor in Aroni Oputu of Delta State, whom I am sure will keep the flag flying and carry everyone along as he administers the affairs of the group with zeal.

“I want to seize this opportunity to call on the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the management of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), and the others to give Oputu all the support he needs to get the programme going smoothly.

“My prayers are for all and sundry to be success stories and also for the peaceful operations of the different organizations and the PAP beneficiaries to take us to the proverbial Promised Land of abundance.”

Binidodogha appealed to stakeholders to avoid unnecessary rancour, saying, “This is the season when the blessings of the heavenly host should be showered on everyone that has laboured hard to ensure that the Niger Delta region becomes a showpiece to the other regions of the country.”
