Plateau Police arrest two for culpable homicide, foil kidnap attempt
Plateau State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man for killing a woman alleged to be a witch and burning her beyond recognition, while another suspect was also apprehended for stabbing his aunt.
Addressing newsmen in Jos, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, said the command received a phone call from Myet village of Dawaki, Kabwir district, that at around 8:00 am, an unknown woman was killed at a riverside on the boundary between Plateau and Bauchi states.
According to him, upon a thorough investigation, one suspect was arrested (name withheld), and he confessed to the crime and further revealed his co-conspirators, who are now at large.
“He confessed that they killed the woman because they suspected her of witchcraft and being responsible for the death of his two sisters. The case is still under investigation and will soon be charged to court upon conclusion of our investigations,” he said.
Also, on the eve of Christmas, the Pankshin Division of the state’s police command arrested a man for killing his sister over a minor argument and stabbing his father, who was trying to mediate in their quarrel.
The Commissioner of Police told newsmen that the incident occurred in the Amper district of the Pankshin local government area of the state, adding that in the process of the altercation, the suspect, William Matthew, stabbed her with a knife on the ribs, and while his father, one William Kupluk, male, 63 years, who was trying to separate them, was also stabbed in the stomach.
“Upon receipt of the report, the victims were immediately rushed to the Public Health Care Clinic Amper. Unfortunately, Esther Dankyes, his aunt, died while receiving treatment. The suspect has been arrested and is currently undergoing investigation. The case will be charged to court upon conclusion of our investigation,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police further disclosed that the command equally foiled a kidnap attempt, arrested the suspects, and recovered firearms from them.
He said following credible intelligence information received from an informant, men from the Shendam Division arrested three suspects, all male, from the Shendam local government area at Lu-Shinkwan Hotel in the council area.
“The suspects were attempting to execute a kidnap operation at Lu-Shinkwan Hotel, Shendam. The following items were recovered in their possession: one locally fabricated double-barrel pistol loaded with a cartridge, a jackknife, three (3) handsets, and two (2) local knives. The case is currently under investigation at the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and will be charged to court.”
