Police nab suspected abductors, killers of DVC EKSU, Olaofe, others

Ekiti State Police Command has arrested one Omowaye Ayodele, a member of the kidnapping gang which recently kidnapped the late former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti (EKSU), Prof. Femi Olaofe, at Federal Housing Area, Ado-Ekiti, and later murdered him.

Ekiti State Police Command has arrested one Omowaye Ayodele, a member of the kidnapping gang which recently kidnapped the late former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti (EKSU), Prof. Femi Olaofe, at Federal Housing Area, Ado-Ekiti, and later murdered him.

Also, the police said Ayodele and two other suspects, including Ojo Temidayo (akaYellow) and Busarí Lookman (aka Abbey), killed one Aina Adeyemi and robbed her of N115,000 while riding on an unregistered Boxer Bajaj motorcycle at Babian Junction, beside Federal Polytechnic Satellite Campus, Ado-Ekiti.

The police spokesperson, Abutu Sunday, in a statement yesterday, said: “Following a distress call of attack on Aina Adeyemi, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) deployed immediately to the scene where the victim was met in a pool of her blood. She was rushed to the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
“Investigation by the squad led to the arrest of one of the suspects, Omowaye Ayodele (aka Baba Ogbon), in Akure, Ondo State.

“During the investigation, the suspect confessed to taking part in the commission of the crime and mentioned one Ojo Temidayo (aka Yellow) and Busarí Lookman (aka Abbey) as accomplices.

“According to him, Busari Lookman went ahead to shoot and rob the victim while himself and Ojo Temidayo stood beside the road very close to the scene of the crime to monitor the environment and point out the victim to Lookman, who carried out the operation.”

Abutu added: “Effort by the operatives of the RRS led to the arrest of Lookman, who confessed during interrogation that he was the one who shot the deceased victim and robbed her of N155,000.

“He mentioned Omowaye Ayodele and Ojo Temidayo as his accomplices, including one Sunday Onyema at large.”

According to him, the money robbed was handed over to Omowaye Ayodele, and N50,000 was given to him as his share.

“Omowaye Ayodele further confessed that he is also a member of a kidnapping syndicate that recently kidnapped the late Prof. Olaofe.

“He stated that he was arrested in 2015 for kidnapping, imprisoned, and was released recently on May 24, 2024, after completing his jail term.

“He also confessed that himself and his gang members attacked and robbed Point of Sale (PoS) operators at different locations in Ado-Ekiti, such as the Bawa Estate area and the Better Life area, among others.”

The spokesperson said the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and would be arraigned accordingly. At the same time, an effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing member of the gang who is allegedly in the custody of the arms used for the operations.
