Police nab suspected kidnapper, recover locally-made gun in Niger
The police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division in Kontagora Local Council of Niger State have arrested one Nasirul Isyaka of Sabon-Gari Mangu Matachibu village.
According to a statement issued by the Spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect was arrested on January 17, 2025, at about 10 am.
Isyaka was arrested in connection with a kidnapping incident that occurred on December 29, 2024, involving some armed men who invaded a village, killed a victim and kidnapped two others who were later rescued through a joint security effort.
The statement further revealed that the suspect was arrested when he visited one of the victims in his house where he was identified to be one of the kidnappers.
One locally made short gun was recovered from Isyaka who confessed to the crime.
The police spokesperson further revealed that the suspect has been transferred to their headquarters in Minna for in-depth investigation and prosecution.
He also revealed that effort are ongoing to arrest other members of his gang.
In the same vein, the command disclosed that its operatives attached to Maitumbi Division in Bosso Local Council intercepted and arrested three suspected armed robbers, Isah Bello, 21, Abdulsalam Abubakar, 23, and Nasir Mohammed, 25, all of F.M area of Maitumbi, Minna.
According to the spokesperson, the suspects burgled the students’ quarters at a school of health in Maitumbi, tied the students and robbed them of their valuables such as phones, chargers, power bank, clipper, ATM cards, and some money.
He added that one of the robbed power banks, a phone charger and an electric torch light were recovered from the suspects who are currently being interrogated.
