The Nigeria Police Force has announced February 1, 2025, as the commencement date for enforcing mandatory third-party insurance for vehicle owners.

This was disclosed following a meeting between the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and the Commissioner for Insurance, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin.

During the meeting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Omosehin, accompanied by top officials of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), sought the police’s support to ensure nationwide compliance with insurance laws.

He described third-party insurance as a crucial policy that provides financial protection for all road users in the event of accidents.

IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the police’s commitment to upholding the law, referencing Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Section 312 of the 1945 Motor Vehicle (Third Party Insurance) Act.

“Compliance with this policy is not optional. It is a legal requirement designed to protect all road users and ensure accountability,” Egbetokun stated.
