Reps minority caucus rejects sole administrator for NDDC
IYC condemns Pondei’s sack
House of Representatives minority caucus has rejected President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of a sole administrator for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), describing it as a disservice to the Niger Delta region.
It urged President Buhari to inaugurate a governing board for the NDDC without further delay as required by the Act establishing the commission.
In a statement by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu (PDP Delta), described the development as “a further pathway to deprive the people of the Niger Delta of the much-desired infrastructure development of the region.”
MEANWHILE, the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has condemned the sacking of Prof. Daniel Pondei from the commission’s Interim Management Committee (IMC).
While reacting to the removal of the Pondei-led IMC, Central Zonal Chairman of IYC, Comrade Clever Inodu, said the dismissal of Niger Delta persons from the leadership of the commission even on interim capacity was one two many and had impeded the development of the region.
Inodu, who said IYC would meet to deliberate and release a stronger statement on the matter, advocated the appointment of a substantive board and a Managing Director, warning the presidency against playing politics with the NDDC and development of the region.
